Rishi Sunak has received the backing of Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen to be the next Prime Minister after committing cash to the ‘levelling up’ agenda.
Speaking on a joint visit to the Teesside Freeport on Saturday, Mr Houchen cited Mr Sunak’s record in relocating part of the Treasury to Darlington and backing the area with cash for investment in transport and the freeport. Mr Houchen added in a statement that he was “thrilled that Rishi has got behind my 5-point levelling up pledge”.
