The taxi industry is threatening a national shutdown. It's demanding government intervention to curb high fuel prices.

Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, is set to meet with association leaders this week to find solutions. The spokesperson of the National Taxi Alliance, Theo Malele spoke with eNCA's Tumelo Mothotane. Courtesy ofIt's demanding government intervention to curb high fuel prices.Angry operators say recent increases are taking a toll on the sector.

They say there has been no response to a letter written to Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula four weeks ago."We've been trying to absorb this blow for a number of months now to a point that it became impossible for us to keep keeping on, which is why we had to resort to adjusting prices," said Theo Malele, National Taxi Alliance spokesperson.

"The sense here from different sectors is to have a total shutdown where nothing moves. This is affecting everybody and the commuters can't take it any longer."

GilbertKays The taxi industry must voetsek!!

Finally

MatthewsMahlubi Here's a solution. Engage GovernmentZA to deregulate fuel prices CyrilRamaphosa PresidencyZA & vote against both EFF & ANC in 2024!

I fully support the taxi industry in this movement. The ANC has bought nothing but Poverty to this country!!!

They're on thier own, ba skare kenya. Leave us alone when we go to work....

cab_delivery Remember that they aren't fighting for us. They are fighting for themselves. Just like they did during lockdown. Just like they did with etolls. The taxi industry holds the ANCs balls, and they squeeze whenever they experience difficulty. Please do not be fooled.

This shutdowns is too much now, there's no country that love shutdowns like our country South Africa even if we see that, our life's is getting worse 🙆🙆🙆🙆

What is the difference between shut down and lock down, if your fight is with the government then shut the government down!!

Dates and Time I will be there with the taxi drivers

Amandla💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻Viva National Strike viva

Tell them to go to hell. Infact the government needs to provide with alternative transportation for pple to go to work or prepare them a special 10days sick-leaves. Those ones think they're invisible akumelanga sizwe ngabo! They don't own the commuters

Where i stay single trip to town is R14 n today we were told that by 1 of August it will be R18 single 😪🤦‍♂️

Santaco is useless and a hired gun.

I can bet that the fuel increase did not affect the taxi bosses but it affected the taxi driver as the boss just wants his money. Taxi boss you must start paying tax too so it will the country

Mxm still talking instead of action 🥴

MphoKate24 They mustn’t dare close any road - they better strike in their designated ranks.

Bafana ba Rupert

Nthabiseng6366 They now coming to their senses

This will be serious National shutdown not lamasimba abo Carl and fake MK toy soldiers

We don't need them

Ave banya laba, when it suits them

Re tshepile lena!

This fools are probably working from rupert orders maybe his private jets are costing him dearly with such amounts of fuel and he probably know this useful tools will hid the call.we heard rumors they stopped ppl in KZN to do the same thing they want to do now

I will support them as government is raping us. eskom energyprices, loadshedding es2kom fueltaxes highesttaxesintheworld corrupt myanc cadredeployment lawless president

Threats? Really. Action is more required than threats

This is the shutdown we can join not eff's Because anything eff does it's all about the individual

National shutdown we support. This fuel price hikes is not good for anyone.

Sesithembele Kunina SA_Taxis

Kulidweni bakithi

Uber your time to shine is now the filth is taking itself out

Yoh didn't they say they won't join?

They are crazy

This after they increased taxi fares or before?

Only after they have raised their prices, lets say the fuel price drops, are they too going to drop the tax fare? Basile laba olabish

Every South African must support this.

Very stupid of SA_Taxis Santacokzn only now they are realising that petrol is expensive.

Finally

Bloody swines bayanya

Yes. Name amd shame them!!

It's about time

They can go to hell

Why the European countries doesn't have taxis, bro those people are fit, healthier and smart coz from your childhood you use bicycles I remember 2017 was in germany working in the kindergarten my boss aged around 63 was riding everyday coming to work, naming her coz of her age

You know this ones think they are specials.

The selfishness of taxi industry they ignored us when we needed them the most because the prices was gonna suit them now we use alternative ways to get to work they wanna shut the nation

They are bluffing

Oh ok they hv collected after their went up, now they see even after that the gasol is still taking😂😂😂

Instead of a national shutdown, hear me out, go and protest in front of Luthuli house, the presidents residence, places that actually make them feel the pain, they don't care if it doesn't effect them.

Lol they are feeling it manje ngoba ppl are changing Mode of transportation.

Laba they think they are god's..... Mxm

Bunch of Mabena those ones

They must Voetsek these ones

Niyathanda uxabanisa 🚮

After that dey must change or repair their skorokoro

These guys don't play around!!! Please just warn the companies in advance

Bayadina laba SA_Taxis when the national was suggested to be held in June, the declared it faceless 🙄manje ngoba sukuthanda bona after increasing fare

People need to look at small motorbikes and bicycles where the terrain allows it. We need to think long term. If we use less fuel, price will automatically drop. Western countries are doing this. Buses need to more effective in moving the masses. Strikes, shutdowns don't work.

The whole country must join this time

How can I join this strike

KwazaUnathi At least we all pay for fuel, not like electricity.

What tax do taxi industry they pay, my friend does not know

These cowards and bullies ar same time

So now it suits them after taxi fares have gone up already?

Inflation is a constant and will always be there, rather it's the governance thereof they should address not the inflation part, corruption and looting of public funds has led to this and those lockdown mandates have brought us here today, time ANC moved out of power....

That is great

Bebathe abazingeni moc, ngenkathi kuthiwa ayenziwe leShutdown kufunwa uSizo lwabo🤷🏽‍♂️🤔😒

Now the real dawgs of the game speak, not those Carl guys

Mazishe! 🔥

Asbonge man

Can it be peaceful at least?

These ones thinks we were born yesterday

Who is fooling who? They refused to engage with government about fuel price only now or sbd failed to pay ransom?

It's a good idea

I am sure it's a savings to the owners to not run their taxis for a day..

It's about time ⏲️

Aii yengwe le yengwe ke yona.

Demand Demand Demand 🤡🤣🤣🤣🚮

I don't see that happening cause they already increase the taxi fees and it's seems as the taxi industry it's been captured by the politicians

How about they start driving properly.

Mxm fuseg!!!

Wow minder pad ongelukke met minder taxies .

Zizobila kengoku

take it on the chin like the rest of us!! oh wait!! you don't pay taxes like the rest of us!! Shush wena!

Yea Yesterday this guys were harassing motorist and bolt drivers around aeroton, demanding no passengers in our cars

Taxi industry can go hang, they never support other's initiatives.

We don't care, they didn't support us last time nd now that the brown envelope had been finished they Wana scream shutdown. They can go to the nearest hèll

Masende we taxi industry they must go ask for petrol money from Rupert angithi they are his “little army” when the citizens take it to the streets they ditch them le mididi emdaka.

TALK IS CHEAP … shut the TAXI BOSSES DOWN! They are earning MILLIONS is state funded royalties from the Taxi Industry!!!

They are on their own. They didn’t wanna join last shutdown so they want community to join them🤷‍♂️

When it suits them, let them feel it and commuters must use busses or trains....nxa

Same thing happing here in Namibia ,possible shutdown this week.

Sesethembe bona obhuti abadala.. Lekelelani

After increasing taxi fare 😏😏

Those are real taxi operators we trust not these captured Santaco puppets They must bring it on, we need any fearless organization or leader who can tackle this we will support

Shutdown will never happen.Just a threat

julle het dit gedoen en wat het julle bereik niks net plekke beskadig soos julle altyd doen meer skade as iets anders wat julle reg kry

Ave amadidi lawo maphixiphixi emboni yamatekisi mxm 😡😡😡😡

PrinceM70209631 As if they(taxis) will decrease their prices if petrol prices go down...😏

Ofs5B Aykhale once and for all

after the petrol price is dropped, are they going reduce the taxi fare? This taxi industry only think about themselves

We are behind them Cz Pule Mabee and other members of African National Corruption are drunkers They don't care about the country They care about their free big fat salaries That are disadvantages the tax payers

They must just increase their fares like any other business without threatening shut downs.

They will buy them it will not happen

They first increase taxi fare, now they want fuel be decreased 🤷‍♂️

National shutdown is not a solution as such continues to peel off little that is left of our economy. Let’s force this government into engagement and dialogue. Let’s show them we are now awake, thinkers and show them how things should be done.

Mbaks bought some of SA_Taxis members to make sure some of them doesn't agree to national shutdown

They will never go on strike without the blessing of Rupert.

Matapola bona bao mxm

I said take strike action. NOT a shutdown 🤦🏾‍♂️

Ey lamadidi

The only industry that is capable of putting this country into a stand still & they will if the government doesn't curb this high fuel prices

Why would u go on a strike, fck man your taxi fare went up it will never go down if fuel prices R reduced we as the poor will still struggle 😢😢😢

We demand that the taxi industry must rather focus on their driving skills and obeying road signs then less people will be killed in SA.

Ngoba sekuthanda bona.
