Gun manufacturing executives defend companies against Democrats' suggestions that they bear responsibility for gun violence, including mass shootings like...

House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., held up documents during a hearing on June 22, 2022, on Capitol Hill in Washington. Gun manufacturers have made more than $1 billion from selling AR-15-style guns over the past decade, and for two companies those revenues have tripled over the last three years, a House investigation unveiled on July 27, 2022, found. Those sales tactics are “deeply disturbing, exploitative and reckless,” Maloney said.

“Chairwoman Maloney, these acts are committed by murderers,” Daniel responded. “The murderers are responsible.” An investigation by the committee indicates the five major gun manufacturers have collected more than $1 billion over the past decade from the sale of the kinds of “assault rifles” used in Uvalde, Sutherland Springs and other mass shootings, she said.

They said Democrats should reckon with their own policies and rhetoric and attributed the country’s gun violence to lenient Democratic prosecutors and defund-the-police talk.As the back-and-forth between committee members fell into familiar partisan rhythms, Kimberly and Felix Rubio sat behind the witness table holding a softball photo of their 10-year-old daughter Lexi, who was among those killed at Robb Elementary.

Cazares said it was sad but unsurprising that the firearm company executives rejected responsibility for shootings such as the one in Uvalde.
