When Lydia Gentle started work in the resources industry, only six per cent of employees were female. While there has been recent progress, women still report feeling out of place as they call for change.

Joanne Bergamin is the communications director at Queensland vanadium mining company QEM limited.

Tanya Cambetis says increasing diversity in the mining industry should not just come down to targets.Ms Cambetis said companies should take practical steps to identify potential leaders within their organisations. Speaking from her own experience, Ms Cambetis said the visibility of female leaders in the industry was important.

ABC - There are almost no Woman garbage truck drivers or brick layers. Can you do a story into getting more Woman into these industries? There is obviously a bunch of sexism going on here.

Mining is a great career but it is hard walking into meeting after meeting and seeing a group of men looking back at you. My last site I was one of two women in tech services across two sites. As a female engineer I know I am very much in the minority and this needs to change.

If anyone looked like her they would be related.

In an industry where sexual harassment is rife towards female workers.. I’m sure women will come flooding to work in the mining industry.

This current “diversity and inclusion” BS fad that says a workforce is more productive and efficient if it is more diverse is just absolute nonsense. Let’s push women into jobs they don’t particularly want to do.

How did astronauts ever happen without role model astronauts

Role models don’t have to look like you. They only have to inspire you.

Where I work there are more and more women in mining and it's for the better. Much easier on the machines than men and they actually make better leaders as well.
