The Ottawa Police Service had upped its presence in the Market area for the holiday weekend, the service wrote in a Tweet on Tuesday morning.
“Officers were out every night this long weekend in the Market area,” the tweet said. “Liquor establishments were checked. Several disturbances were broken up.” Police conducted over 70 “liquor pour-outs” for open drinks in public and, in addition to the two men arrested for possession of a firearm, one other was arrested for impaired driving.
The Market, a popular nightlife hotspot, has been frequent witness to violence over the years, including a rash of shootings and stabbings, and, on July 15, Vuyo Kashe, 36, was shot to death on Clarence Street, near King Edward Avenue in the ByWard Market area.
No names/photos of the perps, or is that becoming taboo by the media.

UnpopularOppinion - Just maybe, MyLowertown didn’t need another nighttime only, adult only, alcohol venue? Every single door now on Clarence Street sells booze or cannabis to adults at night.
