Preston’s long awaited Shankly Hotel was hit with another major setback after the company behind it went into administration.
The city centre development had first been planned to open in 2019 only for multiple delays to push it to 2020 and then summer 2021 only for that target to pass as well. Another year, seemingly little has progressed and now Signature Living Preston Ltd, the company behind the hotel, has entered administration.
According to a filing with the Gazette, Matthew Ingram and Michael Vincent Lennon of Manchester-based Kroll Advisory Ltd were appointed as administrators for the company on August 5. What happens next with the hotel development remains unclear.Signature Living took on the former Post Office overlooking the Flag Market in 2018 with grand hopes of turning it into the city’s most luxurious place to stay.
The project was originally a collaboration between Bill Shankly’s family and Signature Living to highlight and commemorate the footballer’s playing career at Preston North End. Lawrence Kenwright, the sole director of Signature Living Preston and other companies which entered administration in 2019, previously said: “Despite the similarities in name and theme, The Shankly Hotel in Preston will have its own unique look and feel from that which we have created in Liverpool.
“Our Preston hotel, will have what I believe to be the most vibrant event space in the UK with Elysium, which will enable as many as 160 guests come for an event or party and at the end of the night up to 22 can stay in the accommodation beneath the event floor. We are very excited about this project, which represents the next evolution of our brand and we believe that it will help to supercharge Preston’s night-time offer and aid its destination status.
