“This is the first of its kind in Alabama where we are going to have a proactive business intelligence effort for economic development purposes. We really think this could be transformational,” said EDPA President and ABIC creator Greg Barker.

The Economic Development Partnership of Alabama recently announced the launch of the new Alabama Business Intelligence Center, a centralized research hub within EDPA’s Birmingham office designed to collect and analyze data to assist with business and economy growth throughout the state.

In 2021, Alabama was ranked ninth in job-creating economic development projects per capita in Site Selection Magazine’s annual Governor’s Cup analysis. Barker said ABIC growth strategies include collecting research on successful company executives with connections to the state or identifying successful business sectors throughout the country and accumulating that data to determine which sectors could succeed in Alabama.

Former financial analyst Lauren Hyde will serve as ABIC’s first executive director and said her initial goal is to focus on the “low hanging fruit” of their targeted research. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
