Air Canada is investing in green aircraft, which could make short flights more affordable and accessible. Here’s the Swedish group that’s behind the electric fleet.

, Michael Rousseau, president and chief executive officer of Air Canada, said this deal “will be a step forward to our goal of net zero emissions by 2050.”

“The idea of this aircraft is for them to fly the short hops and actually flying them in a way that's not just green, but also makes flying short distances more affordable and more accessible,” Forslund said in an interview from his testing facility in Sweden on Monday.According to Heart Aerospace’s website, the company was founded in 2018 with a focus on electrifying short-haul aviation.

“I think it's great because it's de-risking the market part of our project. So essentially, Air Canada is not only one of the most progressive airlines out there, they also operate through their subsidiaries a vast fleet of turboprop aircraft, and they also have cheap access to renewable energy,” Forslund said.

AirCanada should invest in customer service, bag handling and some decent food.

Its great for flights from Oakville to Billy Bishop.

Lol. 200km flights. Such BS.

‘Could’ but likely won’t.

Come on since when has green anything resulted in more affordable? Just look at what is happening in the green California energy market. 'Everyone shall drive electric cars but you can't charge them because there isn't enough power'. Then look at Germany, etc

More affordable my ass. If 'green' aircraft were actually more affordable airlines would have bought them ages ago.

Concerned about flights like from yvr to yqq which is 136kms. Any kind of emergency delays making landing unavailable seems like an unnecessary risk with only 200kms range. Transport_gc approving that seems wild to me.

Set up a private corp with your own money and flush that down the drain with these virtue-signalling garbage “investments” Air Canada.
