NASA’s DART mission has successfully crashed into the Dimorphos asteroid in a test of the world’s first planetary defence system.
“It’s the first time it’s been done, it’s the first step being taken and it’s important to develop work from there on in,” he told Sky News Australia. “When you look at the globe and what’s been impacted by a similar asteroid hitting the earth, it can play a potentially longer-term very important role in helping protect us”.
