Great to see that the cheap renewable energy is kicking in

In case you have not done it already.....

Gee. Privatisation has been such a big success.

Why exactly are prices rising, what has changed to the system that has caused radical rises!

I think this says it all. Alinta Energy is an Australian electricity generating and gas retailing private company owned by Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE). It was sold for $4 billion and was approved Treasurer Scott Morrison in 2017.

Why doesn’t the ABC ( Aboriginal broadcasting) blame it’s benefactor the labour government? Totally biased , NO wonder it rates last in Sydney radio market in recent ratings

Amazing, they are nearly as bad as fuel, insurance companies. Constantly gouging customers.

in early 2010 we had the cheapest power at 30cents/kW Now after privatisation we r paying the costliest power

10+ years of political inaction resulted in this.

Buyers remorse yet ?

Maybe tell this Chinese owned private company to pull its head in?

They just did an expose on energy prices it came back we have been overcharged 10 billion AUD since 2017 and now they want to increase another 35% I'm on a government pension so please tell me how I am supposed to live I can't afford them now A future street person

Cheered on by the moral elite

Build another coal fire power station until enough renewables are in the grid this will help keep prices in check while we develop other energy alternatives.

But at least it will be CLEAN! Right! 🤡

The same energy giants who received billions of taxpayer $ for decades and did nothing about transitioning to renewables in a more measured and responsible way by ignoring scientific advice and following the well worn path of big business, no need for me to spell it out...

War in Ukraine has nothing to do with the price of electricity. Plant more trees.

Please report on the impact on exec salaries and bonuses and dividends paid to shareholders. Let's really show where the increase in prices is going.

Thank you Albowen.

Classic scare campaign by fossil fuel companies to get everyday Australian to hate renewable energy. Meanwhile, electricity companies still getting major profits

In 2017 Alinta spent $1B buying an asset that was valued at $2.3B in 2003 and now they’re complaining that it costs $8B to replace. A tad disingenuous.

Bet energy profits don't drop. Stop robbing Australian residents for no reason. It's a disgrace.

strange that the government wants lots of retailers for the same product..........very crazy privatization

ABC report! Triple it!!!!

Nuclear power

Well played Albo

Corporations trying to further scare monger the community away from change. What’s new? It’s been happening for 40 years. Remember that time LNP promised energy prices would drop by $550 when carbon tax was reversed…. Energy prices went up instead. It’s all greedy BS

We need nuclear now

if only there was another use for that $240B being spent on the stage 3 tax cuts over the next 10 years

Another con job to transfer wealth

Time for even more record profits

MahsaAmini

Stage 3 tax cuts will be needed to pay the energy bills

A more accurate headline: 'Energy ceo preps retail customers for price hike'

Gullible Australians voted for this. They are happy to pay more for green energy

It’s ok Albo has a plan

This is a biased fossil fuel scare campaign on green energy, this is totally irresponsible. The story is based on cherry picked facts and figures. It's bordering on disinformation. Does the ABC charter allow for tabloid articles presented as fact?

Dogs

Australia needs to stop its radical energy policy and be balanced and realistic a balance of both is needed for the foreseeable future green energy is nowhere ready and it’s not going to change the climate

But lets face it, business as well as politicians are very deceptive in what they tell us. And both for their own benefit but rarely for the good of Australia.

Why?

This cant be true. AlboMP promised he'd reduce energy prices. Did he lie?

The Australian Govt needs to speak and act for voters and put these energy companies in check over their extremely high profit margins yet skyrocketing cost to consumers. Tax the lot of them! Enough is enough!!

Two egregious flaws: 1. Renewable energy is cheaper than fossil 2. Failure to discuss alternative costs C'mon ABC, Australia needs the full facts, not what you get spoon fed by cashed up fossil fuel shills.

Henry_Belot EnergyAustralia Matt_KeanMP Czech investor Pavel Tykac already waiting in his starting blocks

QLDLabor Get used to it people. You’ve been 100% conned by ideological green wankers and the pathetically desperate governments who are trying to appease them, for nothing else other than votes.

Soon they'll charge you for using no energy at all

The fact you're pre-emptively warning of a 35% incrrase means it's probably going to be closer to 60%

Almost as if, the more green we go, the more our power bills go up. Which is the opposite to what our friends on the Left told us

I voted Teal. I've got plenty of money. 35% is no problem.

yeah.. I remember they used to door knock about non fossil fuel alternatives back in 2012 Not surprising

It won't be easy under Albanese
