The Public Service Commission (PSC) says it is investigating over 2 000 senior government officials to verify their qualifications.

The Department of Public Service and Administration revealed earlier this year that hundreds of officials do not have qualifications for the positions they occupy in government.

Only the Department of Environment and Nature Conservation has no senior managers without the required qualifications. Trade union Nehawu said they’ve been raising the issue for years. They argue that recruitment processes are skewed. The Northern Cape provincial government says some of the positions were filled before the requirements for qualifications became a norm.
