Judd learnt of the honour when he received a call from Australian sporting great John Bertrand, who delivered the news.
“He didn’t say it was ‘special’, which was a shame, but he was great – just very kind and thoughtful words,” Judd said. He said he enjoyed watching his old side from afar and was impressed with their improved form, but tempered his praise, hoping that they’re not yet satisfied in their ascent up the ladder.“You’ve got to be careful what you celebrate in sport and in business and in life, because I always admire teams that finish top four and treat it as a disappointing season – it sort of says something about their culture.
“There was a lot to get excited about. It would have been great to see them at least play in a final, but I’m sure it will make them hungrier, and hopefully, some finals experience and some finals success isn’t too far away.”He said he certainly won’t be making a comeback to footy in any capacity any time soon.
