Despite Starbucks announcement that they will close their location on the Circle, authorities and other local business owners say downtown remains safe and they are a little confused by the move.

INDIANAPOLIS — Despite Starbucks announcement that they will close their location on Monument Circle citing customer and employee safety, authorities and other local business owners say downtown Indianapolis remains safe and they are a little confused by the move.

“I've been working in downtown on the circle for over 15 years and I've never thought it was dangerous or unsafe,” Kristina Tressler, one of the owners of the South Bend Chocolate Company on the circle said. Burton says that he hopes other businesses will turn to IMPD's downtown district for help before making the decision to leave.

I’m not surprised, they applied to be union shop. I’ve had my last Starbucks. Buy local.

By safety, they mean there is NO ANTIFA to trash their stores in a peaceful manner during the Burning Looting and Murder in the name Justice.

They evidently haven't been downtown recently. In 2018, had family visiting and someone drugged up literally chased us back to the car. Had friends visit in July and we went downtown for lunch. Waited outside for our table and some man just watched us the entire time. Creepy!

Did you ask the murder victims? Oh wait

You talked to the wrong people. Most officers will tell you it is unsafe and many downtown business owners will say the same thing.

It’s the new gun promotional campaign from those Mad Men aka INGOP. The new Wild West theme is expected to bring NRA tourists to the downtown to see exciting impromptu shootouts as anti-open- carry urbanites run for cover. Congrats Republicans...fantastic tourism outreach!

Starbucks is over rated anyway!!

Ummm.....I'm guess alot of those authorities and business owners don't actually go downtown much. Downtown Indy is many things, safe is not one of them

I just wonder if the workers at that location were thinking about forming a union. Starbucks has been closing those stores and using safety or sales as an excuse.

3rd world garbage pile with cellphones.

Arguments by IMPD & Downtown Indy Inc that the district has 'less than 5% of overall crime' so it's no big deal is a BAD use of statistics. IMPD's Downtown District is relatively small, largely taken up by IUPUI & industrial zones, & factors such as demographics, etc apply.

This coming out on a night that has cops called to three shootings

Downtown safe 🤔 ha ! Nope
