In a press statement by the City he said, “I’m excited to share that we are expecting a further 5 cruise ships in addition to the 104 already booked to dock in Cape Town. With almost R 100 million in total estimated passenger spend per port visit, the cruise travel sector is a major boost to our economy and will help to generate more jobs across various related industries.” he says.

He says over one-hundred cruise ships are set to dock in Cape Town this year, adding that now more than ever the focus will need to be on industries that will support job creation and skills training and therefore looking forward to the potential of the ocean economy. “For this reason, the City works with the private sector and fund strategic business partners to support boat building and marine manufacturing as these sectors hold massive potential for Cape Town’s economy to drive demand that makes business sense. It also brings waves of benefits to our entire business eco-system.” Vos explains.
