Gregor Chisholm: The Blue Jays will likely try to improve via the trade market than free agency. So who could be dealt?

almost certainly is too, he’s the most logical candidate to move in this type of deal. If the Jays think making Bichette a centrepiece secures a legitimate star in an area of need, they’ll listen. Just don’t bet on the talks amounting to much.

Keep an eye on the Marlins, too. They have as much young starting pitching depth as anyone in the majors and if there’s an indication that someone like Pablo Lopez or lefty Braxton Garrett could be on the move, expect the Jays to be aggressive. Don’t underestimate the rapport these two front offices have developed after completing trades each of the last two summers.

Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi previously raised the possibility of the Jays taking a run at St. Louis outfielders Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbar. Other names to monitor include Detroit lefty Tarik Skubal and Pirates centre-fielder Bryan Reynolds. In the bullpen, there’s Kansas City’s Scott Barlow, Pittsburgh’s David Bednar and Detroit’s Joe Jimenez.
