'At the end of the day, it is ministers who make the decision.' Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty says his party would engage with civil servants if in government, following O'Broin's apology to the state's chief economist.

The comments come following housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin's apology to the State’s chief economist after calling for him to be sacked., Mr Doherty said:"My view was that we need to listen, we need to respect, we need to engage with expert advice.""It is the people who elect our TDs, who elect our ministers, and the buck stops with them."

He said that Sinn Féin does not seek to surround itself with"yes men or yes women", but instead people"who challenge ideas"."What this is about is the demand for real change that we're seeing right across the island", Mr Doherty said. According to him, the DUP is"trying to hold onto the past" by not entering into power sharing in Northern Ireland.Sunday Business Post"Kwasi Doherty"The Sinn Féin TD said that the Conservative Party in Britain is"more akin to Fine Gael than Sinn Féin", given that Fine Gael and the Tories share the same member party in the European People's Party.

"Indeed, we are the party that believes that those at the higher end, those who earn €140,000 plus, should pay more tax.""With the right policies, with the right determination and with the right team ... these issues can be tackled."Mr Doherty believes that now is the time to prepare for a 32-county Republic, reminding listeners of the Good Friday Agreement requirement to hold such a referendum.

Good man Pierce, you have a lot to learn, I can't wait to see you after your first Civil Service Dept Secretary meeting...🤣

Imagine what kwasi might do

Sunshine lollipops and free gafs for everyone and it'll be awesome sir.

Anyone who thinks that marxist communist spinn fein are the answer to anything with their open borders bullshit needa their heads examined.

Thankfully thats not the case should that lot get in next GE.

‘Expert advice’ The civil service ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You think !?

The problem is that unqualified civil servants can waffle advice which they know nothing about and then can’t be sacked. Job security for life. Remember the guy who couldn’t account for a couple of billion and then went and got a top EU job. Couldn’t make it up.

When in power, SF will usher in the brilliant 22nd century Ireland, Enlightenment wrapped in Renaissance inside a Revolution.

Doing as many u-turns as their Tory paymasters this weather.

The best thing they could do would be to reduce the civil service by 65% as its massively obese and hugely inefficient. It’s not evolved since 1922 👍

He called for mortgage interest relief to be restored for those on trackers. Not a word when it was abolished for those on variable rates. He definitely has his own agenda

Governments come and go the problems remain that is enough to tell you the advice is dated lacking in expertise and the issue is civil servants so PearseDoherty why would you not hold those to account . TDs are elected Civil servants are NOT

EOB needs to go.

The decisions are made by Europe our so called leaders are mere puppets dancing to the tune of their paymasters

The mouthpiece of the provos?

They will then find out on there isn't the money there to solve every problem they say they will fix. U less they want to keep shaking that imaginary money tree. Beware of populist politicians who say they have an easy fix for everything.

Wow….big deal! They have no other choice so what’s he on about?
