A couple were left anxious after their energy bill suddenly shot up to £13,000 overnight.
But after reading the newly installed smart meter, the dad-of-one found he had gone from being £189.99 in credit to owing £13,037.71 in the space of one night. ‘Last week I checked my online account and it was £189 in credit, as expected. However, last Tuesday I checked my account and to my horror I discovered we were £13,000 in debt.’
The couple even had their direct debit payment increased from £177 the previous month, and claim their previous meter readings were altered to reflect the significantly higher bill. The couple also claim their previous energy metre readings were changed to reflect their new bill
This has nothing to do with the energy crisis but instead was a mistake by their agent who used the gas meter reading as the energy meter reading. The issue appears to be rectified. Misleading headline to create angst
