JIA remains open throughout storm

As Tropical Storm Nicole travels across the state, Jacksonville International Airport is encouraging travelers to keep an eye on information from their airlines for up-to-date status reports on delays and cancellations, but the airport remains open.

On Nov. 8, the JIA began tweeting that it would remain open “so long as our partners at the FAA and the airlines deem it safe to fly and continue operating," a note that continued to be posted through Thursday. Although the airport itself is staying open and operational, many cancellations have been made for both arrivals and departures throughout the day, and many flights have been delayed. Most cancellations have been departures from the airport today.

Across the U.S., more than 1,200 flights were canceled for today, and more than 700 have been delayed according to FlightAware, which reported 29% of flights in Jacksonville today have been canceled.
