The head of Australia’s business lobby has welcomed the Albanese government’s “tremendous reset” with China ahead of a high-stakes meeting between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday evening.was a “win for Australia”, hailing its potential to kickstart the economic relationship with Australia’s biggest trading partner.

Westacott, who has strongly criticised the government’s planned industrial relations changes to encourage multi-employer bargaining, was effusive about the government’s foreign policy achievements. He said Australia was “seen as being in the naughty corner on climate change” under the previous Coalition government, locking Australia out of important opportunities for international co-operation.

“Getting Australia back to a strong bilateral relationship with China is key,” he told this masthead.Following his meeting with Xi, Biden said he did not believe China and the US had “entered a new Cold War”.
