NT Police have said the alleged attacker and Ms Fairfield knew each other but the pair were not related. The man had been detained by police and was under guard at the Royal Darwin Hospital after emerging from a stand-off at a Rosebery property early on Friday morning.It is understood he has been discharged from the Royal Darwin Hospital and is now remanded in custody. Police were first called to the property around 5.30pm Thursday after Ms Fairfield's discovered her body out the front of their home. She was pronounced dead by emergency services shortly after, with Detective Senior Sergeant Morrissey saying investigators believed she had been attacked at around 2.30pm.
