An economics professor says the big winners of Rogers Communications Inc.'s $26-billion proposed takeover of Shaw Communications Inc. would be the telecoms' families and that low-income Canadians would be hit the hardest.

OTTAWA - The families of Rogers Communications Inc. and Shaw Communications Inc. will be the big winners if the $26-billion proposed merger goes through and low-income Canadians will be left even further behind, an economics professor said Friday.

Rogers pushed back against Osberg's claims, pointing to the CRTC's decision to approve the deal, noting that the regulator examined how the merger would impact consumer interests, including low-income households, seniors and people with disabilities, before doing so. Rogers said it plans to introduce a Connected for Success wireless program nationally as well if the deal is approved.

The network sharing lawsuit between Videotron and Rogers was also brought up in cross examination. Lescadres said Videotron remains confident that the lawsuit will be settled.

How exactly? Rogers plans are cheaper than Shaws on almost everything. Shaw seems to raise their prices every 2 months. Flapjack92 Excuse to raise prices & fees !

Poor Shaw. Imagine your family business that you put several billions of $ of your own money to build your business & now it is worth $20 billion you are told that you can’t sell it. Image if this was your house that you built and it increased in value by 5xs but you can’t sell Many of us without being economics professors know this already. If you have a shrewd of common sense you get to the same conclusion, except if you are a specialist at CRTC. Why this deal is not terminated already? How many work hours will be spent before reaching the obvious ?! Not just low income impacted. Avg Cdn pays more than other countries. One can get free iPhone in US for new subscription and cheaper rates. Here we get to pay for the iPhone over 24 months. Geez thanks Rogers / Bell / Telus.
