Trevor English says Shaw’s investment in its wireless business is ‘net negative’ by about $3.3-billion

, for $2.85-billion. That was in order to address concerns that the merger would hurt competition in the wireless sector.

“Our share price hasn’t moved in 10 years – it’s basically flat, while the majority of our peer group, including Telus, has more than doubled,” Mr. English said. Mr. Péladeau told the tribunal that if Videotron wants to enjoy the same level of growth it has previously enjoyed, it must expand beyond Quebec.

However, Mr. Péladeau said that while immigration drives growth in the wireless industry, Videotron “would like to be even more successful than the flow of immigrants that Canada receives and grow our business even larger than that.”
