Shopping the sales can often feel like a case of ‘personal besting’: we get caught up in trying to find the most jaw-dropping reductions, the biggest brand names, the It pieces that sparkle. However, as we’ve all learned at some point, it doesn’t always pay off. And, when you come down from the post-sale high, you’re left with pieces you don’t really need, want or – sometimes – like. If we can offer a word of advice for shopping the Black Friday sales it’s this: look for basics. It may seem boring, hell even downright irresponsible, when there’s such an amount of glitz and print in our sale feeds, but trust us, it’s the smart move. Now’s the time to nab quality clothes you can wear on repeat. We’re talking wool coats, cashmere jumpers, a great white T-shirt, a staple pair of boots, a trusty shape of denim that you always buy.
