Viewpoint: Think of small businesses first as you holiday shop

By Allen Thomas – Regional administrator for the SBA’s Southeastern RegionThe U.S. Small Business Administration is the only cabinet-level federal agency fully dedicated to helping the nation’s 32.5 million small businesses start, grow, and scale.

Founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011, Small Business Saturday has become an important part of small businesses’ historically busiest shopping season. Attracting more customers isn’t the only way small businesses can take steps toward growth on Saturday. While Small Business Saturday is a good place to start, we must keep the momentum going all year. The SBA is here to support our small businesses through our programs and services. The agency provides counseling, capital, and contracting expertise as the nation’s only go-to resource and voice for small businesses.
