CBC NewsElon Musk, Tesla's owner and CEO, said on Twitter the company's Full Self-Driving software didn't work in Toronto initially because of TTC streetcars, which usually let riders off in the middle of the street.
"The official answer we got from Elon Musk was streetcars," Chansoo Byeon told CBC News after the Tesla enthusiast received a personal answer from the company's CEO himself on Twitter. He says the move is dangerous for a number of reasons, not just because of streetcars. He also points to traffic congestion, construction zones, pedestrians and "less-than-stellar" drivers.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation, which regulates automated driving in the province, would not comment on whether Tesla explained the fix or consulted with the province before making the decision.Const. Sean Shapiro, who works with the traffic services division of the Toronto Police Service, says Tesla nevertheless has the authority to make the change without the province.
Amazing step for the future of transportation in Canada & the World. More Driverless vehicles will hit the road after 2025-2028 and the city better get ready for the driverless takeover
I'm so glad no one owns a Tesla in St John's that I've ever seen. Beta tests don't belong on public roads.
Makes perfect sense. In this city, anyone outside of a car is fair game and not worth protecting
Yeah. I’m pretty sure the *legal* barriers to this bullshit have *not* been lifted.
well shit
How is this legal?
Cyclists in Toronto : hold my beer
not making me feel any safer on the street.
Yes, because we haven’t seen numerous instances of this technology failing where there is construction and road maintenance going on —and that’s 90% of the downtown.
Not making a statement re. the safety of Tesla self-driving, but I would hope the decision would be the traffic laws (Toronto, Ontario and/or Canada) rather than the suggestions of the manufacturer. I do think eventually self-driving will be the norm and safer than human.
No matter how unsafe it is, it is still safer than the average Toronto driver.
Self driving trucks, farm equipment and buses are going to be great
I guess we will find out! Ding ding ding CRASH!

It's completely unethical and both Musk and the car operator should be prosecuted when it hurts someone.
CBC Next they will allow drunk driving.
CBC Don’t be concerned, the taxi drivers will hit you first.
To be fair, the human drivers are likely much worse. The problem isn’t who is driving, it’s what they are driving. Cars kill people.
Drives Itself 0 Emmisions Basically Unlimited Range and Still cheaper than a Tesla lol
Musk: “trust me”. 🤣
The world has gone mad
this is going to kill folks
With people dying every day thanks to careless drivers, I think the last thing we need is technology that allows drivers to be even more careless.
Just learn to drive your own damn car
