The Department of Finance says it has not received many calls about $500 dollar cost of living benefit cheques going out to the wrong address.
The department was responding to questions raised since the cheques started being distributed earlier this month. The cheques are going out in the mail, prompting some people to question what to do if a cheque comes to the wrong address. The department says it has not received many calls on the issue, and while it anticipates receiving returned mail, so far it has not been a significant issue.
In the meantime, someone who has passed away since filing their 2021 income tax, is still eligible for the payment. In those cases, the administrator or executor of the deceased person’s estate can deposit the cheque.
And they never lived there began with?
Not surprised also have heard several cases where they went out to deceased people.
What about all the dead people getting them. I know of two people that received cheques for their dead loved ones. These people have been dead for over a year too.
My neighbor brought my daughters over and said there were 3 in his mailbox that didn't belong to him....so someone os dropping the ball!

The local bank here was only giving customers back $200.00 of their $500.00 cheque. Holding the rest until next Friday. Really? They are government issued cheques!!!
Direct deposit was to easy for them , but look who we are talking about. They are as stun as me arse and we got people like that running our country 😡
This is infuriatingly stupid. There was an article put out that indicated people had to EMAIL not call to update address for cost of living cheques. No surprise though, there’s no one responding to email. Of course they incorrectly believe it’s not going to wrong addresses!
If you’ve moved since doing taxes, it will go to wrong address. While I understand direct deposit is a federal thing (province can’t access it due to privacy laws), they could have checked account for address change prior to sending it out.
I still didnt get my bribe check
I honestly can't understand why the didn't use direct deposit for those who have it.. I would have everything run more smoothly. But I guess that's our government for ya.. got to do everything without really thinking first!!
I Have been waiting for them to call me back for days about our checks going to our old address..its ridiculous that they can't hold the checks at the post office for people to get for this reason. sending them back for address change will probably take another 6 week to process
The issue I have with the department of finance is they are not sending out cheques based on income as they stated because there is no way people making less than $9,000 a year should still be waiting on a cheque while those making more have theirs. Some 50,000 have been sent.
