I never give information where it's possible to register or transact without that information , and avoid some non-essential transactions where companies demand more information than necessary. Where you're concerned companies are asking for excessive information, it's a good idea to let them know that you object — create friction for over-collection. And where you are under no legal obligation to provide accurate information or your actual name, it's up to you whether you choose to engage in some "data obfuscation".
