New forms of tourism are needed to help the industry become more sustainable and robust so that it can weather future crises.

“This means that returning to business as usual as we knew it before the pandemic is no longer an option,” said World Tourism Organisation Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Harry Hwang. “We have no choice but to admit that the previous two years have been the most challenging in recent memory for international tourism due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” he said.
