Salt & Straw, a prominent Portland ice cream company, might move its headquarters from the city over crime issues that the company co-founder says threatens employee safety.

Rains PDX owner Marcy Landolfo on the ongoing break-ins that have forced her to shut down her winter clothes store, ice cream business is threatening to move its headquarters from the city over rampant crime, which store owners say puts their employees at risk.

"If we can’t make it safe, I can’t stay here," Salt & Straw co-founder Kim Malek said last week, according to Oregon Live. "It’s just not responsible of me to put my team in that position." Malek said she wants to work with city and county leaders to address widespread drug use, homeless encampments and violence, but will be forced to leave if the concerns are not addressed.

"It’s really hard for a lot of people right now," Malek said. "I’m not here to point fingers. I want to be part of the solution.""Our intention is to work through this," she added. "I cannot stay here if we don’t."
