American is making it easier to earn rewards and benefits but also plans to sunset its MileSAAver and AAnytime awards.

American Airlines Group Inc. is making changes to its AAdvantage loyalty program less than a year after implementing a major overhaul.

One of the biggest changes in Thursday's announcement allows members to begin unlocking rewards after earning only 15,000 Loyalty Points — fewer than necessary to reach the lowest AAdvantage status level. Currently, rewards don't begin unlocking rewards until they have achieved Platinum Pro status with 125,000 points and flown at least 30 flights on American or qualifying airline partners.

American has seen"overwhelming success" since reworking the AAdvantage program and received positive feedback from members. She described the latest changes as building upon that success.
