The authorities in KwaZulu-Natal have called on the law enforcement agencies to follow up on teen pregnancies and help press charges against those who have impregnated children under 16. This call was made by Health MEC – Nomagugu Simelane.

By midday on New Year’s Day, KwaZulu-Natal public health care facilities had registered 76 babies – with the majority being boys. Four of those were born at the Harry Gwala Regional Hospital, formerly the Edendale Hospital, in Pietermaritzburg.“We also had a 15-year-old mother which means when she fell pregnant she was 14. That is not something we should celebrate as a society. The other is in Port Shepstone and the father is 15-years-old. Now here it is two lives affected by pregnancy.

This comes as Statistics South Africa reported last year that of the over 106 000 girls between 10 and 19-years-old who gave birth in 2019, almost a quarter were from KwaZulu-Natal.“We do want to congratulate those mothers. But it is concerning that we also have teens amongst these mothers. It is really really concerning because in the main concern is the life of those girls that will be disruptive. It’s not for the time when you are breastfeeding or you are taking care.

Meanwhile, two young mothers – 22-year-old Nonjabulo Nxele and 21-year-old Nomonde Ngcobo – were over the moon after giving birth on New Year’s Day. “It is very special. It’s a blessing. My mother even said that this baby will be born on this day. I’m really happy that my baby was born on New Year’s Day. I am over the moon.”

“I am so happy that my baby was born on such a special day, the first day of the new year. Wow I’m happy.”VIDEO:KZN Premier welcomes New Year babies at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital:

My worry is, you do that, country will have a shortage of teachers...

imagine bheki cele stopping you in the street and asking you who you had sex with that made you pregnant!!! 🤣

Press charges and prosecute them in the inert judicial system

A society without moral fibre 🤷🏿‍♂️

what a joke .. maybe they will go to the effort to press charges against 3 or 4 ... it was just said for political gain

Authorities in KZN should follow up on ALL KZN Municipalities not providing constant & reliable service delivery to Resident, yet we are constantly facing increases in Municipal Bills.

They are coping Zuma

That horse has bolted and the bell has been rung.... Way too late to do anything about it. The focus should be prevention, not that difficult....

It's only in the black community where you find such atrocities!

If I was the MEC, after the offender has been apprehended, I would subject them for chemical castration, our government is losing the battle on rape, when will they subject the offenders to chemical castration, Minister Sisulu was on the right path for suggesting it 💔🤞

Nice try

If they go to jail who's going to take care of their children

Halfbof the educators maybe in prison

Bazophela labafana baka maskandi

MEC of HEALTH KZN...We don't expect to hear your emotions...deal with poor MORALITY ..This is what our Constitution and Democracy gave us....

It is long overdue 👍

In total agreement but how exactly are they going to go about that if the mother doesn't know who the father is ?

cathiew632 Authorities are not clever. Teach kids to behave provide sport facilities work employment empower churches & religious groups-Arresting fathers is reactionary dont provide leadership

Kzn and Zimbabwe same

What a joke!Where are the parents?Educate your children and instill moral values in them.

Very important

i will always be thankful to God for giving me a reliable source no more lost,. through Brandonkaren11 Bitcoin mining investment platform

cathiew632 Should be under 18 minister

Ths taliban dnt hv idies hw to run province thy jst wnt to waste our tax money on kids who love sex and money. Crime is high in kzn, rape high and political killing is high ethekwini bt no taliban wnt chase aftr young prostitute

With what resources? It's not like law enforcement is not already stretched thin. Fix the employment rate, to reduce poverty and under 16 pregnancy will naturally com to an end.

Until we change the social child grant policy our law enforcement can do nothing about impregnated children under 16 because they are the one attracted by this social child grant benefits. Poverty forst them to see it as their only survival.

What if they are impregnated by their 17-20yr old boyfriends, coz these children have outgrown their ages? Cellphones & DStv have exposed them to naughty stuff, if you understand what I mean. All parents are at work or bayaphanda to monitor what they watch; they are on their own

Great gesture. What would happen if the 'impregnator' is also under 16 years old?

We need to start cleaning up all this ecoli in kzn

So sickening to take advantage of teens

Hip Hip Hoooooray you Neanderthals have at last woken from your 28year slumber...Useless people 😏

Why law enforcement should force people to do that Police Stations are open 24 hours a day if a person fell that they're were violent education they know what to do Imagine Police going around asking for an ID to every pregnant girl

That’s good. Include PhalaPhalaFarmGate on the list please

If those who had sex with underage girls are investigated, plenty of the girls' fathers will be arrested.

Please!

What if they are teenagers too, SA we sick country

There's no family planning in South Africa, there's no birth control in South Africa, you have given our children license to disrespect they parents, 1 yr old have becoming an uncle to 3 yrs old niece in South Africa, we have useless leaders who eat from nose,

Parents who did not report the impregnate of their minor child to SAPS should also be charged for covering up rhe rape case of their minor child.

All of you are talking rubbish, I don't know when you people will have sense, are you saying a 16 year old boy pregnanted a 16 or 14 year old girl then community will kill the boy? In my area a 12yrs old girl was pregnant with a teenager, you don't have a leader/government

Kujulwa yonke into nje kwi law agencies

Lol nothing more to be expected from amazulu

They must be hit hard!!! People must fear sleeping with kids under the age of 16 but people are sick out there they will still sleep with them and when they fall pregnant they will force them to do abortions in those unlawful places because in hospitals they can still get caught.

That's madness. Go back to basics. Children must be children, not children when it suits you. Rights, Rights , Rights🤷‍♂️

At this point,I love the KZN MEC of Health, she's a rock because the paedophiles will think twice before targeting young girls, she's a rock 💪

Which law enforcement agencies? This thing can only be solved by the communities themselves, what are the adults doing about it.

To avoid teenage pregnancy, the government must stop the child grants, finish and klaar.

Pathetic!!!!!!
