The shooting occurred in the 2100 block of West Division Street when a man tried to enter a business with a handgun. Shots were exchanged.

Two people were shot, one fatally, when a man tried to enter a Ukrainian Village business by force in the early hours Sunday, according to police. It is the first reported homicide of 2023 in the city, according to Chicago police records.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Division Street when a man, brandishing a handgun, tried to enter the business, police said.There was an exchange of gunfire with those who were shot. After the shooting, the man fled the scene in a vehicle, police said. One person was shot multiple times, suffering wounds in the left leg, abdomen and shoulder. The person was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where the victim was pronounced dead. A second person suffered a gunshot wound to the left calf and also was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
