In addition, the lawsuit alleged that Montoya's termination was driven by retaliation from Weise and Malone because he did not direct staff to hire Weise's future son-in-law and would not cover up allegations of misconduct by one of Malone's children. The city hired Montoya's replacement in 2022 after a national search with 41 applicants. Avondale approved a contract in August to hire Ron Corbin as city manager. Corbin most recently served as the city of Cottonwood's city manager for three years.
