Labor should lift the annual skilled migration intake beyond 195,000 to make up for the missing workers who were unable to relocate to during the pandemic.

Labor should lift the annual permanent migration intake beyond 195,000 to make up for the hundreds of thousands of missing workers who were unable to relocate to Australia during the pandemic, business advocates say., Deloitte is calling on Labor to bring more skilled workers into the country and consider scrapping labour market testing.

“Migration always needs to be a demand-driven program, and at present the demand is such that you could go beyond that [195,000] cap,” she told“This demand is really going to be here for at least three to five years, while businesses look at things like different training models, apprenticeships, [and] automation.”

While the strategy worked, delays processing visas at the Department of Home Affairs mean the applicants won’t arrive any time soon. “Government should continue to leverage this advantage by ensuring efficient and cost-effective visa settings so that businesses can attract the skilled workers they need,” Mr McKellar said.

“We have one client that’s had to put on a part-time resource to track their responses because they have an obligation to reply to everyone who applies for these roles” she said.

Sometimes, Fin, you are just vile. The rest of the time you are the vilest of the vile! Growth forever? How and why?

Australia needs ZeroMigrants

who would want come here at this point? Brand Australia has been damaged beyond repair.

chatGPT is just the beginning, and it's all going to improve so fast from now, importing arbitrary people is the most stupid thing the government could ever do.

Labor = Derrrrrr

The Australian National Guard service will be 4 all left school not in paid work,males/females, & Higher education, they will be paid during their service, and backup States Police & assist in Emergencies. saythe Australian Patriots party, (patriotsofozgmail.com) come Vote4 us

Not the way to go say the Australian Patriots party, (patriotsofozgmail.com) ,we plan 2 bring in a revised National Service scheme called the National Guard in 2 divisions, Land Guard 2 patrol suburbs /towns support States Police, emergencies, & Sea Guard 2 patrol 24/7 coast

There is not enough housing now for our current population, will you not be happy until every city in Australia has LA’s homeless numbers?

Mention Corporate greed that is what is pushing Labor in this ponzi scheme! short term vested interests are desperate to keep profits up!! $$$$ Only are driving this false premise! What about the impact on environment as well! Stop siloing information!

There are young people out there who just finished school that deserve to be given a chance first. Will you take them in your home?

These policies are made by the parasitic drain on our society

How does get stuffed sound?

In 2002 we were predicted to hit 26mill by 2042. Baby bonus delivered replacement birth rates in '08, since then high immigration has driven down birth rates & increased the median age & driven the resident population out of the housing market. Get bent.

Australian corporations love to blather on about how 'innovative' they are. Maybe it's time they started innovating to find better ways to make more money than just lobbying the government to flood the country with more cheap labour and consumers.

Build more gaols.

We have a housing shortage. Our hospitals & ambulance services are stretched. Not to mention all the other vital infrastructure needed. This is a batshit crazy idea.

What about housing, how about we let housing catch up first before letting anyone else in. Except for family visas. Exponential growth is not possible in Australia

No they should NOT, we are fine as we are...Melbourne has no room left! Literally!

Please stop referring to the government as “Labor” - would you have referred to the previous government as “the Coalition”?

Maybe these companies could offer better oay packages instead of expecting cheep Labor to be flown in at tax payers and workers expense. NO. ENOUGH OF THIS HORSE SHLT

Stop the great replacement

Once again the business lobbies via it's mouthpiece the FinReview. Try raising wages and pushing for education not the constant wage busting sugar hit of mass immigration.

END ALL IMMIGRATION NOW!

Maybe lift funding for training and education to compensate for the damage done by the last anti-education NLP government

Migrants mean lower wages for Australians, and higher housing prices. Pollies sell the birthright of Australians to make the banks and multinationals an extra 0.5% profit.

Large migrant intakes are a population Ponzi scheme on behalf of the real estate industry. Improve local training.

wendyleslie121 I’d like to invest in education of people currently in Australia . All of them .

Mass immigration is designed to deliberately create specific skills shortages. Governments ensure that this is the case by defunding tertiary & technical education for Australians. It’s the big problem masquerading as a solution. What a joke journalists are. Sycophants.

When 'business advocates' tell you to 'ramp-up' immigration, reason and evidence counsel that you should do the opposite. The costs are always socialised with us, the rate-payer, surreptitiously picking up the tab for something we didn't vote for.

No thank you!

Stop the ethnic replacement of native Whites today!

50% of so called skilled black migrants unemployed or in unskilled work. Diluted wealth per capita (resources, personal + infrastructure) by $3mil + cost $50k/year in services. 90% of black refugees unemployed after 10years. $2tril cost of 50k black migrants over 100 years.

Cost of living is one of the highest in the world, not to mention the looming recession. We don't want more 'skilled' migration

But the ALP don’t support skilled, educated migrants because they know better than to vote for the ALP / Greens

Immigration too high. Businesses want a big, cheap labour pool. If there’s really a skilled worker shortage, those immigrants should be required to work in their field. Many end up in lower paid work. We’d have to have the highest qualified Uber drivers in the world.

Lol yeh get bent Trigaboff.

And drive up both housing prices & rents. Plus put strain on our inadequate transportation, water, sewage, electric infrastructure. Yea, good plan.

Twenty years of surge migration and we still have skills shortages. Stabilize our population and stop creating demand from population growth. Enough of the population ponzi economics impacting our livability, housing, hospitals and the environment. michael_read_

Urged by whom

Just round up all the Australians and shoot us in the back of the head. It would be a far more efficient means of committing ethnocide

Why are they hell-bent on inflicting this upon us?

Wow. The AFR certainly got the memo.

Ch9 housing/growth/bigbusiness/massimmigration behemoth and Fairfax housing/growth/bigbusiness/massimmigration behemoth amalgamated and LNP, Labor, Greens, Teals, rest of MSM didn't miss a beat. Not a single word of protest. We MUST BOYCOTT MSM before we lose our country.

michael_read_ Please ask Ms Webb how many of these migrants that she’s advocating for can settle in her suburb

Why are you trying to make us a minority in our own country?

The population ponzi scheme gets a mention several times each week in financialreview - the question is why? Loss of biodiversity, extinctions, lower living standards, and flawed economics. Change the record please. auspol economics

The key to our skills predicament is the permanent migration program creates a big annual net skills deficit because of the services migrants require. The only way to minimise skills shortages is to stabilise the population and invest in ed'n & training:

Literally no Australian wants this. We're in a cost of living and rental crisis. Immigration caps need to be lowered not raised until we can build millions more homes. Planning laws need to change

Awesome to see ZERO comments below agree. It's time to boycott all pro growth MSM, left and right.

Boycott treasonous MSM. LNP, Labor, Greens and teals too.

there needs to be teal style independents whose agenda is to sever our addiction to massive immigration.. the ALP/LNP are in lock step on this issue

What bullshit.

Sells houses.....self interest alive and well.

Population Ponzi Paper

Just incredible.

sound simple Turboboost migrants intake WHY? we can use temp like 457 visa then kick them out so we wont have rent or housing crisis Big pop is pushing up house prices Gen Z is missing out still living with mum at 32

No we don’t, we have the ability to lift the skill shortage here. Focus on funding up extra university places, and provide access to free Tafe places in nominated areas of skill shortages. Increasing the migration intake will only drive up house prices - and increase homelessness.

ONLY if it is skilled migrants that match our values. Taking migrants that cannot speak the language or need social services is pointless and just another burden on the system.

Forget the workers who couldn't relocate during the pandemic - what about the workers that couldn't work because of the jab madate. Let them go back to work and stop persecuting them.

Says who? Australians DON’T want higher immigration and our elected officials are in Parliament to represent our views. We can’t cope with the people we’ve got.

Is it possible voters might have some sort of say in how big they wish Australia to become? Or is it only business interests that decide the big questions?

You need to consider the impact this will have on housing availability and homelessness. There is no simple solution!

where are they going to live? also train the people here.
