The right blueprint: Blue Zones co-founder on Jax challenges

was in Jacksonville to talk about the project. Here's what he had to say:I am very mission-driven, and what I really like about my job is how we are designing environments to make them innovative. All communities, when it comes to health and well-being, love partnering with like-minded people. We’re building environments into a systems model because a lot of people may say they look and feel better, but I want to measure it and make it scientifically better.

In late 2019, Baptist Health brought us in for a feasibility analysis to see if the model would work in Jacksonville. Our team and policy workers were placed in a position to really listen and put a proposal together based upon where we think we could come together with a strategy. We then created a partnership with Baptist who funded the local efforts, the city of Jacksonville, Mayo, UF Health, United Way and others. We then hand it off to the local community who now lead the way.

We must take our time to create the right blueprint for transformation and have the right understanding of the outcomes. Over the next five years, we have to move the needle to best resonate the needs of the community. Through analysis of trust, opportunity, and leadership, our readiness assessment revealed Jacksonville was ready and already had the necessary partnerships. We met with the elected officials, chamber of commerce, city of Jacksonville and the faith-based community. There was a strong desire for the model, and we followed that with conversation to create the right blueprint. There is really an amazing team being led by Nicole.
