The Texas Public Utility Commission is expected to soon vote on a market redesign, which has been in the works after the 2021 winter storm disaster.

The Texas Public Utility Commission is expected to soon vote on a market redesign, which has been in the works afterThe PUC chair said the purpose of Thursday's meeting was for commissioners to ask questions of the consultants who have been tasked with coming up with market redesign options.

"To analyze how we think the market will perform under each of these market designs," explained Zack Maig, who is director of resource planning for E3."There's multiple proposals before the Public Utility Commission on how we might change the electricity market," he said."It essentially provides credits or extra money for power plants that are available during the hardest hours of the of the year," he explained.

Power plants have been weatherized, and on the whole, performed well during the winter snap over Christmas.
