Efforts to fight the fire and search for missing employees were stymied initially by the risk of further explosions and then by fears that fuel stored at the site could contaminate local waterways.

Videos posted on social media showed a building engulfed in flames. As explosions went off, a plume of dark smoke could be seen rising above. The initial explosion was heard several kilometres away. “We are today hit in the heart because three citizens are missing … and we’re just trying to find them. So we’re just crossing our fingers, hoping that we have good news, but it’s been a very big hit on our community.”
