Humanity is set for its next big leap into space with nations and private companies racing to build outposts on other worlds

Putting an astronaut on the Moon has been done before but the next step, to Mars, is much more difficult. It is 250 times further away than the Moon and there is no spacecraft currently capable of sending humans to the red planet.

It was a symbol of what humanity could achieve if nations put aside their differences and worked together. "If the Russians haven't figured out an alternative by the time the ISS is decommissioned or develops its own space station, which given the current circumstances and sanctions is quite unlikely, it might not have any human spaceflight," she says.

Space is an expensive and technically difficult business. No one country can do it alone. New partnerships are being forged, notably with the new brash billionaires on the block.

Not until the 'problem' of exceeding light speed is resolved.

Yes

This might be a big step for human beings.

We’ve become such a disposable society that we think nothing of trashing our Earth, leaving it in ruins and moving on to the next unsuspecting planet. Lather, rinse, repeat. 🤦‍♀️

No can't get past the firmament

I am sure it's possible, it probably will look nothing like Star Trek, but if technology keeps changing, and we develop new methods for space travel and deep space exploration. I am sure we will eventually get there.

How about we spend the money on Earthly Matters, that would be more sensible wouldn't it ? We have more problems than we can poke a stick at right now, right here, let's keep our feet firmly on the ground.

Come on up we're waiting for you. Change your frequency from war to peace and we could meet as early as 2027

We probably should try to get to the moon first

We've screwed this planet, onto the next

Can't even succeed living on its own planet

We better hurry up as it won't be long until we are the only mammals on this planet.

After the fucking mess they made of this planet? Not very likely is it?

We just need WW3 to start and finish so we can finally have the Star Trek Utopia! It’s been proven multiple times over centuries that if ‘we’ (the human race) work together, we can accomplish almost anything. But this will of greed and power always triumphs. Why can’t we learn?

If humanity doesn't destroy itself space and colonising the solar system IS our future and WILL happen

No, I very much doubt it.

We will never get there if we don't try.

Hopefully not

Durr.

We have to ask elonmusk

Not till we get our shit together on earth......

'ESA's Josef Aschbacher believes the new space race will be hampered until a new outer space treaty is hammered out.' I completely agree. The OST might have been a good idea for its time, but it needs changing ASAP to adapt to new realities.

Returns are gains. Deepness is disappearance.

No as humans cannot Co exist on earth
