Demand for cold storage is still high, and many existing facilities are decades old. While cold storage makes a small amount of total industrial space, it’s critical for supplying food and medicine.

When it comes to cold storage, Barber Partners is all about playing the long game. , Barber Partners and Bain Capital are underway with the JV’s first building, a 300,000-square-foot facility in Denton. Located at the intersection of I-35W and Corbin Road in Denton, the Class A cold storage facility will boast 50 feet clear heights and state-of-the-art refrigeration and technology.

With turbulence shaking the broader economy, Dallas-based Barber Partners took a moment to take stock. In the meantime, site costs have gone down and construction costs are expected to follow, said Barber spoke about the opportunity for cold storage in North Texas, how the asset class is fairing and more in the interview that follows: Dallas-Fort Worth is a high-growth area. We knew that if we did our first one in our backyard, where we’re based, it would allow us to be very involved in the whole process, from the creation of our prototype all the way through.

There’s been slowdown in the market, but industrial is still keeping a pretty good pace. What do you attribute that to?
