Eau Claire Market will be no more by mid-2024. The city announced a deal with the company that owns the property to build an underground station for the Green Line. yyc

Officials say a deal has been struck with Harvard Developments, the company that owns a portion of land in Eau Claire Market." will bridge the Eau Claire and Chinatown communities and connect Calgarians to a treasured part of the city," said Darshpreet Bhatti, CEO of Green Line LRT, in a release.

The land is expected to transferred by the end of the second quarter of 2024, at which time the Eau Claire Market shopping centre will be demolished. "We remain committed to engaging with the city, downtown community stakeholders, and our neighbours in delivering a destination that Calgarians are proud of," said Rosanne Hill Blaisdell, president and CEO of Harvard Developments in a statement.

Area hasn't been the same since the French Maid closed all downhill from there lol 😆

I don’t miss it already

Such a missed opportunity. Most major cities have a market in their core that are a destination for tourists and locals. Granville Island in Vancouver, the Forks in Winnipeg, Burrough Market in London to name a few. Eau Claire has the same potential in my opinion.

Sucks ass that place has so much potential !!

Goodbye to some fond memories of my twenties in Calgary.

Underground station downtown? What could possibly go wrong 🤦‍♂️

This was my idea, and I better get the credit. The legacy of your Royal Purpleness lives on!

Loved taking my kids there when they were little to play, and so many interesting little kiosks to shop from. I will have fond memories 😊💕

Hahaha to all the people living in the condos in the area enjoy the crackheads and FK ups that will be hanging around the area.

There goes the closest movie theatre for me.

Times are changing. I recall it first opening alongside the Eau Claire Y. Seemed like such a happening area.

Let’s hope LifelineCalgary finds a good space in the core to keep it easy for donations to keep coming in

Loss of an Icon. Loved that place as Sous Chef at Cajun Charlie's- so sad to see the city made no effort to preserve what was a cultural landmark of fun and life.

The question that should be asked, is, who are the developers who will build condo towers on the site, and, how were they chosen? Hmmmm ....
