Stunned Google staff want 'psychological safety' after layoffs. 'How are we supposed to ever feel safe again?' one employee asks in a tense all-hands meeting.

During an all-hands meeting on Monday, anxious Googlers peppered executives with questions about the. The overriding sentiment was shock from being suddenly exposed to the vicissitudes of working at a public company during a downturn.

This staffer, and other colleagues, were particularly stunned by layoffs of some Googlers who were high performers, or who had worked at the company for a long time. "Should I keep working super hard? Does it matter?" the staffer added. A third employee, based in the UK noted Google has stressed that"psychological safety is paramount." But the staffer said the company just announced layoffs via an early morning email, and cuts were"chosen by VPs who didn't know the people," while managers were not consulted. This employee also said high performers and people on immigration visas were also let go.This type of disillusionment is particularly risky for Google.

"If you interpret psychological safety as removing all uncertainty, we can't do this," Schindler added. But what we can do is despite clearly prioritizing across our businesses, we try to focus and we try to minimize disruption obviously as much as possible. The reality is sometimes we need to adjust priorities based on the external environment, and this is what happened here.

Wow. With the dollar on edge, insurmountable debt, war on the European continent, governments controlling their people, an energy mega-event only avoided because of a record warm winter, and the left pushing the world to catastrophe, I feel less secure than you, sunshine.

The sound of sniveling.

Get over it & move on.

So this is what our colleges are producing today? Be smart, don’t hire any of these children that were laid off… an entitled employee will poison your staff… a dozen entitled employees will kill your business.

poor babies. learn to mine coal learn to be a gunsmith learn to pick vegetables learn to be a christian learn to think for yourself.

Life sucks get a helmet

It was always understood upon starting a job that it was an At-Will Employment agreement. Weird how these college educated ppl don’t understand what that means.

They could always learn to code or become coal miners.

There is no such thing as feeling SAFE in your job, especially if you are working for an 'at will' company. God, young workers today are such babies it hurts my head! If you want to feel safe, go back to living in your mom's basement. Geezus!

As an adult, the only way to feel safe again is to move back in with your folks and stay under your childhood bed. Normal people get canned for being lazy, whiny or mouthy or getting political at work. You have no idea what a spoiled rotten, bratty minority of privilege you are.

Go learn to weld on a pipeline...oh wait

Boo Hoo FFS.

You want safety? Open your own company and take the risk. Participation trophies aren’t given out in the real world. If you work for someone else you’re always at risk of losing your job.

This is a reminder that leftists are children in adult bodies.

Well, I'd say they could learn to code but that's no longer an option--they could learn to mine, but no, that's not an option--maybe they can learn to ask if you want fries with that.

Learn to mine for coal.

I bet these folks were never disciplined as children.

This coming from the generation that routinely likens themselves to my grandfathers storming Omaha Beach. I'm laughing!

🤣

LOL, no one is safe from being fired. Unless you own the company.

You're not going to ever feel safe, it's called life. Grow up.

You know what they could do? Quit. Refuse to work for a company that you don't feel safe at. Go find a job somewhere you feel safe. Go see if you can find you a boss who loves you the way your mommy does. Funny how they never seem to think of that.

anyone demanding 'psychological safety', needs to be included in the next round of layoffs.

Google should put out a list, and those who want Psychological Safety can sign up for it. Then fire them.

Here's how to feel safe in your job: Out-perform your peers.

'how are we ever going to feel safe again?' By growing a pair?

Dear entitled millennial employees… there’s not such thing as job security.

Google built this and they are reaping what they sowed. They coddled their employees to the point where they became professional victims. Same happened at Twitter.

Funny, the Keystone XL Pipeline workers who lost their jobs on JoeBiden’s first day certainly didn’t get any ‘safety’ considerations.

Welcome to the real world, cupcake.

Folks who take American jobs: 'The employee was outraged that among those let go by Google were high performers and people on immigration visas.'

These people really don’t live in the real world. You aren’t owed “psychological safety” from more layoffs. If you don’t want to be in the next round, you prove to them why they should keep you with quality work. Duh.

Time to grow up you whiny children.

Welcome to the REAL WORLD......SNOWFLAKES ! Just like you told the Coal Miners.... Learn to Code ! Oh Wait...you already know how to code... & WHINE!

Ffs what weak willed spineless people

Welcome to reality. Enjoy your stay.

Try googling Tech Jobs and find a new one.

Oh grow up. Life is not fair and honestly, if you need psychological safety after being laid off, Goggle is better off without you guys and gals working there .

Similar to Keystone pipeline workers, huh?

Part of Google's problem was apparently hiring children as employees. I thought that was against the law.

That they thought they were ever safe from getting canned is hilarious. Grow up, children.

Lol. And the world clapped.

This cannot be real. Can it?

what a bunch of entitled children. How about you change your diaper and go find new employment. Adults move on from a job loss and quickly put it behind them.

Well you organize and bargain as a collective unit so you can't just get randomly fired on a monday

Guess these people never figured out what most of us already knew, totally living in a bubble.

learn to cod - oh

Often while coaching teams I used to give the example of project Aristotle and the importance of psychological safety. It would not be possible henceforth to quote this example and quoting Google for setting exemplary standards.

It’s called being a grown up. An entire generation of spoiled brats

Snowflakes.

Omg snow flakes

Feel safe? I have never felt safe in any job.

spoilt lil brats alright

How is it a company so smart with data and analysis was so poor at planning that they overpaid & overhired and had to layoff this huge numbers? Not very flattering for their reputation

“Not feeling safe” is a good motivation to work hard and to not fool around😉.

love to see tech bros suffer, fire them all

FalconryFinance In 1991, Accenture New York laid off 30% of the office. The partners were overconfident about new business in a recession, and had overpaid themselves. They told staff it was a result of staff poor performance (and not theirs). PlusÇaChange GetOverIt FreshenUpTheResume

Psychological safety ? There’s a world of fear, terror and despair all around us. It’s time to wake up , stop being the victim and looking to other people to sort your life out. Grow up, stand up and take responsibility .

LOL they are so pathetic

Nobody cares how you feel, least if all corporate America. That's life; get used to it.

No one is safe in their job.

feel safe? Take control of your finances. Save as much as you can. Because in the end if you have bad health and not able to do any job. You’re fucked without a financial safety net.

FalconryFinance It’s called a union ya dinguses get a clue

FalconryFinance You're not. I walk in every day expecting new codes on the door.

FalconryFinance Did Google bus to mtv double sf rents and 1/4 traffic bc uberd lifts and 'disrupt mom' economy? Sorry about your layoff, I am. Maybe this is nature healing itself. Ps I don't hate google it is but an example, now axed employees are on the outside...

FalconryFinance

children, time to grow up.

It's management through terror. That's what happens when you have spooks in top company positions.

Cannot imagine the horror of being handed this severance package!
