He admitted turf injuries on both of his big toes were stealing some of his trademark, game- breaking speed. He was down.“That’s over,” a peppy Bell said after the Broncos’ workout. “I’m good, man. I’m back.”

With rookie quarterback Jay Cutler taking over the offense, coach Mike Shanahan said the running game must assist the youngster in his transition. The same day Cutler took over for Plummer, former Broncos backup quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt found work for the first time since being replaced by Cutler as Denver’s backup.

Van Pelt will back up starter David Carr. Since being released by the Broncos on Sept. 2, Van Pelt has worked out for seven NFL teams in his quest to return to the league.Starting offensive tackle Adam Meadows and backup tight end Chad Mustard did not practice Monday. Both players are expected to participate in practices this week. Meadows missed most of the game at Kansas City last week and was replaced by George Foster. Meadows was starting his third consecutive game as Foster’s replacement.
