Nicola Sturgeon has insisted her government is not telling Scots to quit drinking as part of a clampdown on alcohol advertising

"I am aware of the letter and the consultation process is on-going. The public health minister will meet with stakeholders and we will consider all points made. "This is about responsible consumption of alcohol. There is evidence that advertising that glamourises alcohol can lead to over-consumption.Scotland’s drinks sector employs 88,700 people and contributes £6.1 billion to the economy each year.

More than 100 drinks firms from across Scotland have put their names to it, with signatories also including Belhaven, Brewdog, Chivas Brothers/Pernod Ricard, The Macallan, and the Molson Coors Beverage Company. Scottish politics Drinks firms insisted: "At times like these, we urgently need the support of our government and elected representatives".
