There's a new general in command of the Texas-based Army command with 26,000 personnel worldwide.

Army Futures Command employs more than 26,000 personnel worldwide, working on integrating more technology into the military branch. The command, based in the University of Texas System tower in downtown Austin, partners with entrepreneurs, scientists, academics and business leaders to better the nation's armed forces.

Four years ago, the organization arrived in Austin. It also has a location inside the startup incubator Capital Factory. Rainey will move from his current posting in Washington D.C. to Austin for the role. He served as deputy chief of staff for operations, plans and training from June 2021 to October 2022 and as commanding general of the United States Army Combined Arms Center, commandant of the United States Army Command and General Staff College and commanding general of Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.
