From WSJopinion: Biden’s promise to remove “junk-fees” will hurt the people he claims to be helping, and businesses will find another way to cover their costs

Wonder Land: Democrats thought a socialist couldn’t win the presidency in 2020. Well, they’ve got one now for 2024. Images: AFP/Getty Images Composite: Mark KellyPresident Biden is from the federal government, and his bureaucracy is here to help you. That’s the political subtext of all the President’s promises in his State of the Union address, notably his vow to remove what he calls “junk fees” from the economy. But the results are likely to harm the very people he claims to help.

There’s no dispute that customers shouldn’t be charged without their consent for products they don’t want. Nor that businesses should disclose add-on fees before consumers sign a contract or make a purchase. But Mr. Biden’s regulators are targeting common business practices that aren’t deceptive or unfair.

opinion How will outlawing junk fees hurt consumers? Businesses will be forced to give up on 'bait-and-switch' pricing and have full pricing transparency in their advertising. If that increases the display price, so be it. That's the whole fucking point.

opinion Then find more ways to stop them. Companies have to stop threatening the public.

opinion ジャンク国家😂

opinion Assault on unethical business practices. Good.

opinion Then let the banks JUSTIFY those ridiculous fees. What are the costs? How could they more fairly impose them. Just letting them hurt people is not the answer.

opinion I think the point of this is so you can't tell me you're selling me a ticket for $199 then have it be $500 by the time I get to checkout.

opinion Dear consumer, junk fees are actually good for you!

opinion Government cannot reduce costs. All they can do is shift them around so that, for instance, people who don't overdraft subsidize those who do.

opinion Doesn't matter! Don't let policies that don't help or a lot of times hurt people get in the way of a good sound bite!

opinion So, we should increase junk fees so the wealthy will have more money to trickle down to us?

opinion Spin the wheel on which banking lobbyist ghost wrote this.

opinion whenever government gets involved, it always tends to hurt the people it claims they are helping. bigger question is if this is intentional or not

opinion how the super rich suits kiss ass

opinion Traitor

opinion You may be right if those businesses are crooked.

opinion So are you guys admitting capitalism is a scam?

opinion

opinion WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT 🤣🤣🤣🤣
