Industry groups and the NT government are travelling as far as the UK and India in an effort to ease crippling worker shortages in hospitality, mining and construction.

abc.net.au/news/nt-workforce-shortages-government-industry-seek-migrants/101972302Significant labour shortages in key industries such as mining, construction and hospitality have led the Northern Territory government and private sector to begin hunting for workers globally — often competing against fellow states to recruit them.

The campaign, led by Hospitality NT and supported by the government, will see 20 delegates from the hospitality industry conduct information sessions across the UK and Ireland, designed to connect employers with workers. Staff shortages have been hitting the territory hard in recent years — including during last year's peak tourism season —Business, Jobs and Training Minister Paul Kirby said recruiting more workers was key to the NT's post-COVID recovery, especially ahead of the upcoming peak tourism season.

'NT heads overseas to in a bid to fill thousands of job vacancies'. Can any of you incompetent women at the ABC write a coherent sentence? I am embarrassed for you.

The government facilitates migration in order to suppress wage growth. It's more profitable to recruit from overseas than to pay native Australians more in order to attract workers. This is what 'diversity' really means - exporting your birthright.

Why don't the Aboriginals want to work instead of being alcoholics

Yet centrelinks overflowing

Shut down the useless, self serving , and redirect them to fill the job vacancies.

Why don’t those not working in the communities take the job on? Don’t want to or don’t need to? Or a combination of both.

Crazy. This is a unique opportunity to provide jobs t9 indigenous locals. Why would they not take this up?!?!?

Actual headline 'people wanted to work for nothing'

Well how about the govt/s MAKE people on welfare work for a bloody change? I'm sick of funding their lazy, useless lifestyles with my tax dollars

Wasn't it the failed NT Chief Minister Gunner who deprived unvaxed workers the ability to work a year ago? $5k fine if you left the house? Just like the dictatorship of Victoria, noone with half a brain would want to live under such tyranny. via YouTube

Get 'Crazy Eyes' Mike Gunner to do all these jobs...

How about you train the thousand of unemployed in the NT

there are 1000s of young indigenous in Darwin n NT They dont work and getting drunk

ABC lie machine. DefundTheABC sackItaRosebutt

There’s lots of unemployed people in the NT. What are you talking about?

You can't have a labor shortage and stagnating wages at the same time. It's simply not possible.

Bali would be an excellent place to recruit staff for hospitality. Similar weather and they have amazing staff and great hospitality culture. But they couldn’t afford the rent.

can they not employ the local indigenous folk? they must be eager to contribute and earn, no?

Now we get to one of the key facets of the covid scam; importing hundreds of thousands of cheaper overseas workers while making housing even more unaffordable.

What is the NT unemployment rate?

Maybe if the NT government made it safe to work in the territory they wouldn’t have such a problem keeping workers, don’t need a junket for politicians to party around Europe then bringing backpackers back to work after blowing 12 million but that’s the NT

Is Alice Springs overseas?

What about all those indigenous people on welfare?

Good move getting in cheap labour from overseas. We can't have that large First Nations population getting jobs, that would be cultural appropriation.

How about talk to members of the Adf about what they think of that little sissy AlboMP A 'National Reconstruction Fund.' does not include defense spending by necessity, it is a political decision to create delay to score points such an act is indefensible. You can separate defense spending- what is it doing in there anyway - just trying to score points with China.
