61 companies agreed to test out a 4-day workweek. The results are in: Worker satisfaction went up, revenues remained steady — and nearly all of the companies plan to stick with it for now.

The pilot program was a collaboration between the nonprofit 4 Day Week Global, the 4 Day Week Campaign in the United Kingdom and the think tank Autonomy.– from nonprofits, manufacturers and finance firms to even a fish-and-chip shop – and ran from June to December of last year.

"Results are largely steady across workplaces of varying sizes, demonstrating this is an innovation which works for many types of organisations,"How employees used their spare time differed by the type of work they performed, researchers found. Those who worked in non-profits and professional services spent more time exercising, while those in construction and manufacturing reported saw the largest declines in burnout and sleep problems, Schor said. The U.K.

You mean cut cost. Buisness is not open, no money lost.

4-8 hour days for the study will miraculously be interpreted as 4- 23 hour and 59 min days by U.S. businesses.

Key words : FOR NOW.

But but.. lazy workers! They need to be in the office!! 5 days a week at MINIMUM! Plus on call for weekends! Otherwise HOW are we going to afford a bigger yacht?!?

SIfill_ I know quite a few people and they loved it, performed better at work and home, one day to rest, one day to get personal business handled , one day to go enjoy something and have fun…same pay, happy family/healthy family

61 companies but it was one study that lasted seven months. It was led by biased groups, '4 Day Week Global [and] the 4 Day Week Campaign'. There was confirmation bias and neglect of other variables. (E.g. any change often results in temporarily increased motivation.)

I think we should all quit and just draw unemployment and welfare. Seems every one else is. Tired of paying for illegals health care hotels and cellphones and plane rides. Government has no money can’t fight wars in other countries.

Yes! The wave of the future.

In a 24/7 situation like staffing of a hospital or similar, including 4 days of 10 hour shifts in the work schedule can work really well.

SIfill_ Please, please, please go to a 4day work week NPR.

cheesemonkeysf And yet California legislators refuse to make the statutory changes so any company in the state could do this.

One day more to spend with their family

I'd like for NPR to try a 4-day workweek. Actually, a 0-day workweek seems ideal.

I think many more companies should try it! If they can maintain profitability and morale then why not 😁

You realize that years ago people died fighting for the 8 hour day?

Ahaha Dude, seriously? I could have told you those who work 5 days a week populate 2 of those days with the internet, phone, texting, chatting, coffee breaks, smoke breaks, running to get food, restroom breaks, snacks, putzing...spread over 2 days, easy and steady wins the race😂

Three days off, one is a true day of rest for all industries

Do those employees have to work 2 jobs now? 4DayWorkWeek x Job | 👨‍💼

A good decision.

Finally workers do have a choice

I’m the UK. Not America. The UK is in a recession, is experiencing terrible crime in all major cities as a result of leftist/labor/woke policy. It’s almost unidentifiable as the UK. More like Londonstan.

This would qualify as a win-win success. And PROGRESS! Let’s scale 4-day work weeks further into the mainstream. It’s 2023. People deserve it. And deserve more time to live.

But the workday itself became longer, from 8 hrs to 10 hrs

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

My entire department is on a four day work week and we are thriving because of it and also more willing to help out if someone gets sick and calls out.

I'm a fan of the all the people defending and fetishizing billion dollar companies. You'll never be rich lol and workers deserve rights

So Americans can sit for 3 full days now getting fat and lazy.

No measure of productivity change. No comparison of revenue change with like companies that didn't participate. Flawed study at best.

Not all cake and roses…

We need to make a 4 day 32 hr workweek available to all.

No surprise

You obviously can’t maintain the output by cutting a full work day. And if you can, simply reduce headcount.

Let’s be real, by Friday most of us aren’t mentally even there.
