Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana tabled a bold Budget on Wednesday that will propel faster privatisation of the economy, suggesting private sector involvement in government-owned power stations, electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure, and rail and ports.
Business organisations, private sector analysts and economists have widely praised the Budget for holding a firm line on spending and showing commitment to reducing government debt in the medium term. But it is unclear whether the privatisation thrust will be backed by everyone in the Cabinet. Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe, a champion of a strong state sector who hopes soon to be put in charge of Eskom, made an unscheduled stop into Godongwana's press briefing with journalists - but did not make any comment on the proposals.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism. politicsblahbla Things are working so well as they are 🙄
politicsblahbla ANC comrades now want to sell Eskom Johanne Rupert and then get stake as 'BEE Strategic Pattners'.
politicsblahbla And loose 70% of the possibility to loot? Hahahaha not on corrupt country.
politicsblahbla After having a 30% education they wanna implement a 30% privatisation of Eskom…..
politicsblahbla Probably not, Government wants the biggest slice of the pie..no, they want the whole damn pie. While it sounds feasible, but in reality, whoever gets to decide which companies can run power stations via tender or appointments, I fear fraud will still be rampant, or even more so.
politicsblahbla How will the MYANC comrades eat at the Eskom trough if it’s privatized? 🤷🏼♂️ This will never happen, the ANC are too committed to stealing funds to fund their lavish lifestyles. VoetsekANC
politicsblahbla From ADR's interview: ' R1 Billion stolen from Eskom every month ' If population is 60 million - and they gave every person R1 Million, it will only be R60 Million R940 Million left Instead, all you get is R350 😂 And still vote for these criminals VoetsekANC
politicsblahbla Everybody wants to eat.. 😼
