Future economists put finance minister in the spotlight about country's economic outlook

Immediately after presenting his budget speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was on Wednesday evening put in the spotlight by students who had made it to the 51st Nedbank and Old Mutual Budget Speech Competition.

They were among a group of 20 future economist students who secured top spots in the 51st annual budget speech competition. "As young people, we were waiting for you to combat the rising youth unemployment crisis and to support struggling SMMEs. Do these two fall into government's priorities?" The postgraduates asked what active approach government would take to reduce skyrocketing debt in South Africa while growth levels were insufficient.
