CarbonFree Chemicals Holdings LLC operates a SkyMine plant, a carbon mineralization facility, and a SkyCycle demonstration plant in San Antonio.A San Antonio company’s plan to turn carbon dioxide into limestone — and sell it at a profit — is getting some high-profile backing from BP Plc through a deal it hopes can transform greenhouse gas emissions from a liability to a commodity.

“We are working with BP to accelerate the introduction of SkyCycle to the market,” said CarbonFree CEO Martin Keighley. “As a valued supporter for nearly a decade, BP understands our technology and the potential impact it can have on helping decarbonize hard-to-abate industrial sites.” CarbonFree says its SkyCycle technology doesn’t actually need those incentives to sustain the work — though it did benefit earlier from $28 million in Energy Department grants and more than a decade of support from BP’s venture capital arm.
